How to Play Ultimate Texas Hold ‘Em
The format used in Ultimate Texas Hold ‘Em is similar to other versions of Texas Hold ‘Em that are spread in poker rooms. The biggest draws are that unlike other poker varieties, Ultimate Hold ‘Em is played against the dealer and there is an optional trips bet (which we go over below). Another draw comes from the raise format, which offers the player an opportunity to raise as a multiple of of ante. These factors help add a higher level of excitement to the game. 1. To start off, players receive two cards and so does the dealer. The players look at their cards and decide whether to check or to raise. If they opt to raise, it must amount to four times the ante. There is also an option to raise only three times – however, there is never a hand where basic strategy calls for this move. A raise at any point in the hand ends any player action.
2. After this decision, three cards (known as the flop) are shown. Players that did not raise before the flop now have the option of raising two times the ante. Checking is also an option here.
3. After the post-flop betting has been resolved, the last two cards are shown. At this point, players must either match their ante or fold.
4. The dealer then exposes his two cards and grades the hand. The dealer must have at least one pair to qualify. A paired board is considered a qualifier, even if the dealer did not match it.
5. If the dealer does not qualify, then the ante pushes; even if the player’s hand loses to the dealer. If the dealer’s hand qualifies, the best hand wins the ante bet. This is the same whether playing in a casino or online at top poker sites for real money.
Additional notes: Regardless of whether the dealer qualifies, the blind and raises are in play. If the dealer beats the player then the blind bet and raise lose. If the player beats the dealer, the raise is matched. Ties push the raise and blind bet.

Take Advantage of Fold Equity
Any time you're making a bet or a raise, you always benefit from fold equity . Simply put, fold equity refers to the equity you gain from the chance that your opponent will lay his hand down and forfeit the pot to you.
Obviously, calling has zero fold equity. Fast-playing combo draws will not only give you excellent equity in the pot from your draw - you'll also gain fold equity.
Make use of fold equity.Say you flop an open-ended straight-flush draw. You bet the flop and your opponent raises. Now you're getting more than the required odds to call (you're actually a favorite here versus any one-pair hand), but you shove instead.
At this point you can win the pot by hitting one of your numerous outs or you can win by having your opponent fold.
How much do you like getting one pair all-in on the flop? Not a very appealing prospect, right?
So you can exploit tight players by fast-playing your draws. They are in a lose-lose situation. If they call, they're a slight favorite at very best. If they fold, they forfeit all of their equity in the pot.
This is a situation where you make both folding and calling incorrect for your opponent! Don't believe me?

If your adversary was three-betting with any overcards and then following up with a continuation bet on the flop, he'll clearly have to fold.
If he was three-betting with a hand like 99-JJ he'd have to make a very difficult call. If he shoves with QQ-AA, he's actually a 45-55 dog!
You've just put your opponent in a very difficult spot where calling, shoving and folding are all marginal plays. Your range when you play a combo draw like this consists of mostly monsters.
What your hand looks like is slow-played big pocket pairs AA-QQ, sets with 77, 22 or 88 and combo draws w/ 5-6s, T-9s and J-9s. To make a profitable call against this range, your opponent would need a monster too.
Combo draws are monsters on their own.Chances are he doesn't have one so he'll either fold or get it in - in which case you can call and get fantastic odds on what amounts to a coin flip.
Rules
The rules are as follows.
- Play begins with each player making an Ante wager. There is also an optional Progressive Jackpot side bet.
- The dealer gives the player and himself two hole cards and three community cards face up on the table.
- Each player must decide to either fold or call. If the player folds, then he gives up his cards and his Ante bet. If the player calls, then the Call bet must be equal to two times the Ante bet.
- The dealer will then deal two more community cards, for a total of five. The dealer will then turn over his own two cards.
- Both hands shall be scored according the highest poker value of the two hole cards and five community cards.
- The dealer must have a pair of fours or better to qualify. If the dealer does not qualify then the Ante will pay according to the Ante pay table below and the Call bet will push.
- If the dealer qualifies and beats the player, then the player will lose both the Ante and Call.
- If the dealer qualifies and the player beats the dealer then the Ante will pay according to the Ante pay table below and the Call bet will pay 1 to 1.
- If the dealer qualifies and the player ties the dealer then both Ante and Call bets will push.
- The Progressive Jackpot side bet pays based on the player's final seven card hand only, even if the player folded or loses to the dealer. More on this bet at the bottom of the page.

Caribbean Hold 'Em Warning
Be warned that Realtime Gaming has an imitation of this game called Caribbean Hold 'Em . However, they pay 1 to 1 on the Ante if the dealer doesn't qualify, as opposed to the full Ante Bonus pay table. Nowhere is this rule change disclosed in their game rules, I might add.

I guess my questions are
1) Approximately how long do you have to play quarters to generate $1250 in action. Just looking for a ball park number as I realize the dealer and the number of players at the table greatly effect the pace of play.
2) On bigger mistakes like when you bet 4x and lose and the dealer misreads and pays you and you win $125 instead of losing $150 doesn't this $275 swing destroy the house 2% edge.
Seems to me the game is beatable because of the high volume of dealer mistakes that take place. Anyone else have any thoughts on this.

I bet quarters and play the perfect strategy as the strategy tables show. I never play trips and bet 4x 2x and 1x where appropriate. What should this equate to in money bet per hour? I am making the assumption that for every $1250 I put in action I can only expect a return of $1225 after the fullness of time and the 2% hold levels out. Many times the dealer forgets they didn't qualify and you get paid on your ante bet. Well if you get paid on the ante when it should have been a push, doesn't that one little mistake make up the 2% for $1250 worth of action.
I guess my questions are

I have no idea what you mean by 'hold'. The house edge is a lot lower than 2%, and it's based on the percentage of ante bets, not total action, so it is easier to calculate.

Dealer mistakes are common, you are right. If they pay the ante instead of pushing it 1-2x per hour you are breaking even or beating the game, before comps. If you have a dealer who can't read the board (which was common when the game first became popular -- a lot of non-poker-player dealers were clueless) it can be a goldmine.

You can answer that question with the Wizard's numbers from the website. Dump them into a spreadsheet and for every line item you care about, change the average value to account for dealer mistakes. The new value will reflect the house edge under the assumed conditions (including your optimal play and dealer mistakes). If it's positive, well...

FWIW, Harrah's LV is extremely concerned about exactly this and watching their hold carefully. With the addition of the in-house cross-platform 6 card bet, the dealer errors have become endemic, the game has slowed badly, and the only thing saving the game is that most people are scared to bet it properly and cut themselves out of taking full advantage. It's possible they'll work through it, but 3 weeks ago they were having a cow. (Don't think I'm giving anything away; they were openly discusssing the situation in front of the table several times over the week I was playing.)

I know what hold means :) But I don't think that's what he meant by the term in this context.
The House advantage is 2.2% upon the average wager. The Wizard has calculated that optimal strategy will wager about 4.15 units per hand. This equates to about 0.53% per unit wagered (Element of Risk).
Oh, I guess I was wrong. For some reason I thought that the HE was 1.4%. Not sure where I got that number from.
EoR is not a useful measure here. Just multiply HE by your average ante size, and multiply that by number of hands per hour.
