Treasure of Cutlass Reef is a challenging pirate-ship battle strategy game where you have to command a pirate warship and sink enemy boats to plunder for gold. Strategically fire your cannons at oncoming ships, and send your pirates on board to fight and steal gold that can be used to upgrade your ship’s defenses. Purchase more cannons, faster moving ships and extra pirates at the end of each battle.

There is also a skill element to this game, as your ship is particularly tough to maneuver and you have to position it perfectly in order to have a good chance of sinking your opponents. The seas are dangerous, and enemy ships just keep on coming, so you’ll have to be accurate if you want to succeed. Your decision-making has to be just right; If you make one wrong move, you could be sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Are you ready Captain Jack? Arrr Matey! I hear you grunt - It’s time to set sail!

How to Play: First select your preferred level of difficulty - Captain, Colonel, Admiral. You play the part of Commander of the pirate ship at the bottom of the game screen. To maneuver your beautiful ship, use the Arrow Keys on your computer keyboard. Alternatively, you can use your WASD keys. You fire cannons out of whichever side of the ship that is facing your opponents. These enemy ships approach from the top of the game screen. To fire your cannons, hit the Spacebar, F or your Ctrl key. Your cannons reload automatically, but this takes time.

Your goal is to destroy each ship and plunder the gold from them. You can see an info bar beside each opposing ship. This shows how much gold is on board, the integrity (health) of the ship, how many cannons and how many pirates they have. There are two ways to destroy enemy ships. You can keep firing cannons from afar, and sink the ship by chipping away at its health bar. Alternatively, you can sail close to it and engage in ‘Close Combat’. Here, your pirates go on-board the enemy ship and eliminate their pirates. Once all the pirates have been eliminated, you receive all of the gold on board.

Each time an enemy ship crosses parallel paths to you, they fire their cannons. Try and anticipate this to avoid getting hit. You can see the ‘Integrity’ (health) of the ship in the bottom right hand corner of the game screen. Once that goes to zero, it’s game over. At the end of each level, you can use the gold you have plundered to purchase ship upgrades. You can reinforce the ship’s defenses, purchase more cannons and acquire more pirates to fight for you.
